About Us
Akarsu Turkish Restaurant and Grill was founded on September 19, 2016, by Joanne and Cengiz Akarsu. Inspired by a love for Durham City and its historic charm, Cengiz envisioned opening a Turkish restaurant here and convinced Joanne to join the journey.
Originally located in a listed building just 50 meters from our current spot, we quickly became known for our exceptional food and service, earning praise and loyalty from our customers. In May 2023, we moved to our stunning new location overlooking the iconic River Wear—a perfect match for our name, “Akarsu,” which means “stream.”
As a family-run restaurant, we take pride in delivering authentic Turkish cuisine and creating memorable dining experiences. We warmly invite everyone to enjoy our food and thank you for your continued support.
